We have a need to feel
connected and up to date with information as it is presented in the moment. Being
able to keep track of the occasions and experiences that are important to us
and our social engagement is something that we as people need to have to stay
updated with our world.
Social media allows for us to stay up to date on the latest news, gossip and events that are happening now and offers a way for us to keep track of events occurring in the future. Social media allows for us to always be involved with conversation and helps us to stay in the know with everyone from friends and family to clubs, organizations, and even our college campuses. Social media is a fun and convenient way for friends old and new to network and share aspects of their life from wherever they are and everything they do.
Bridgewater State University is up to date on the current media trends. You can network with Bridgewater State University on their social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, and even on Snapchat. These social media applications are among the widely used by people today. By being available on the various social networking sites, Bridgewater State University offers a variety of ways for student to connect and share and their life as a BSU Bear with current and future students, their friends and family, and the entire world.
Students love that they can be connected to campus from applications they are already using. Social media not only allows for students to connect with faculty, staff and other students but the use of social media allows for us to connect in a setting that we are familiar with. Many students will use social media for school projects, as it is an easier way for commuters and resident students to engage in conversation when they are unable to meet face to face. Commuting students all agree that being able to engage with the university and other students through social media is a great tool. Facebook allows for connection between a group through the chat message feature. The best part is that you can see when the receiver has seen your message so you know if they are doing their part in the assignment. Being able to connect with classmates in this way makes working on group projects much easier as you can connect with the entire group through one message where you can share pictures and videos in the same spot. Whenever a group project is assigned, the go to method for group collaboration is through Facebook.
Bridgewater State University has a mobile app that allows for students to access their student information on their cell phones and iPads. The BSU app has sections that include student courses, bus tracker, dining halls, news, sports, events, map and a directory. Through this app students can access the classes they are currently in, but for whatever reason, students cannot access the assignments, discussions and grade section that are offered within the courses you are enrolled in. This is a problem for students because these are the sections that would be the most important in accessing on a mobile device especially if they are enrolled in a course that uses class discussions.
Students who are new to campus love that they can see a map of where their classes are located as it provides a way for them to not look lost and confused when navigating campus. On the mobile app the class cancellation section is another important and frequently used feature to students of all class levels. It provides a quick way to see if your class is canceled and for commuter students this is a great tool if you do not have access to a computer before traveling to campus.
Perspective students find that the universities use of social media accounts make for great way to see the campus until they are able to step foot on it. The week in pictures allows for interested students to see the view here on campus through a photo where they can get a glimpse of the beauty the campus has to offer. Some of the photos used are student submitted showing the universities interest in student involvement. Student involvement continues with keeping students involved and up-to-date with information on their Facebook pages, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter accounts where they can see the campus and activities through videos and pictures. They can also engage themselves in conversation through the “Live Tweets” on Twitter where they can have question and answer periods with members of the University. BSU offers a lot of different clubs and organizations and they all have their own space for connecting on Facebook. There is even a Facebook group for incoming accepted freshman and stays open through their career at BSU. Social media is convenient and a great way to stay connected no matter where you are.
Being able to network with the university by means of social media allows for students to voice their opinion about events and situations that they may not be heard in any other way. Social media is a virtual room that makes speaking with other students easier than ever before. The freedom to express your thoughts or voice a concern through social media provides a great way to gain information to campus life that you may not learn from your professors.
